J-Rock? More like Ga-

Post by scyphozoa »

-ckt.

You thought I was going to make a gay joke, didn't you? No, no, the only gay joke here is me.

I'm making a J-Rock thread, because of course I am. Recently, I've been listening through Dir en Grey's albums in no particular order, and I forget every time how much that band fucking rules. One very high light was Phenomenon from ARCHE.

I also feel compelled to give a shout to Yona-Kit, who I will say barely counts because KK Null of Zeni Geva is part of it. "Skeleton King, He's Big as Shit."

What are some Japanese acts you lot have an undying admiration for? Or what do you think of the slop I bring to the trough?

Do let me know, because YOU know I'll be back here often.

Got reminded of DIMLIM this morning.

Highly recommend their first full-length, CHE DO A RA. Their song 'vanitas' is one of the tracks that got me into the visual kei genre as a whole many years back. To be reductive, imagine if Kyo from DIR EN GREY went math rock.

Their second album has some standouts, but it's less interesting on the whole, and also has some tracks that are straight up bad. 'ηœŸε€œδΈγ«η§γ‚’ι€£γ‚Œε‡Ίγ—γ¦' is really good though. Somehow captures the heaviness/gravitas of their earlier metalcore sound despite being entirely clean toned. 'What's Up ?' is also really catchy.
