Hello forum friends!
Gonna try and get a little weekly conversation going.
The question is:
What have you been listening to this week?
Singles, albums, new, old, things you've heard already or plan on getting around to.
Whatever music has marked your radar that you feel like talking about this week.
Here's my pick:
Esthero - Breath From Another (1998)
A great little Canadian trip-hop album that a friend of mine told me about a few weeks ago.
A lot of trip hop to me comes across as a bit samey (though I do still like the genre) but this one managed to keep my interest pretty consistently.
My favourite track is probably 'That Girl'.
Would recommend.

Cid Rim - Cid Rim (2012)

Pretty solid handful of footwork / other electronic tracks. Short and sweet, doesn't overstay its welcome.

aside from my usual genesis glazing (been especially into
Wind & Wuthering as of recent), I've been bumping
Extension of The Wish by Andromeda a shit ton. synth heavy prog metal album from 2001 - by this era in the early aughts and for the following few years "prog metal" had basically cemented itself as "copying dream theater", but this album stands as an example of maybe one of the most unique records in the genre of this era, especially vocally. its also maybe the single best example I can think of metal bands being nice to their keyboard player, the synths are mixed really nice and loud and they never fight with the guitars. loved this album a shit ton when I was younger and it still remains really fresh
the new Lucy Bedroque record is also stellar, highly recommended

you should peep imo, I think you'd like it bc in addition to the progginess it just generally has a really fun early aughts synth-y vibe to it, which I know you're into. the cover is also what drew me in at first, its always been one of my favorite album covers ever lol

might be a little cringe to admit i’m listening to video game music for fun OUTSIDE of the game, but i’ve actually been casually listening to the halo 3 soundtrack.
it’s incredible to hear the tracks from the earlier games reimagined with the resources afforded to the composer (the first game had 90s midi instruments, halo 3 had an orchestra) also i feel like i probably didn’t fully digest how good the OSTs of these games were considering my first experience with halo was when i was under the age of four.
i’ve sent a video below that shows the progression of one of my favourite tracks from halo, under cover of night, the first version of it has only one live instrument, a bass.
