What have you been listening to this week?

You probably know the drill by now.
Talk about whatever music has marked your radar that you feel like talking about this week.

I feel like I didn't listen to anything all that notable this past week, but I did check out:

Madonna - Erotica

This is The Madonna freaky Sex album. They got her suckin toes on the back cover.

Ignoring early 90s shock value, its fine. The first few tracks are nice. A lot of that late 80s early 90s house sound (no surprise with Vogue being the hit that it was) with some similarly contemporary downtempo type grooves a la Soul II Soul. I think its main shortcoming is that it drags on a bit long (about an hour 15 mins). I try not to put too much weight into track lengths but with most tracks clocking in at 5 minutes or longer, there are very few tracks on here that I feel do anything worth that extra time.

It might tickle your fancy, it might not.

2hollis - boy

Can't believe i've been putting this off for so long but I finally listened to every 2hollis album (minus star because I heard that one sucks) and they were all incredibly fire. I'm highlighting boy because it has it was my favorite of the three i've heard. I think its probably also his best sequenced album. Everything fits and flows together super well. Some personal highlights include "teenage soldier", "3" and "light".

I'm really disappointed to hear that the latest 2hollis album isn't very good because he had an incredible 3 album run, and since he recently signed to a major label its likely he may never make something as good as boy ever again.

Also someone pointed out that he samples the Minecraft firework sound a lot and once you hear it you will never unhear it lol.

imma post here bcuz a thread wasn't going this week :P hopefully this will revive things

i actually finally have something to post damn!

Boards of Canada - Music has the Right to Children (but really Boards of Canada in general)

Boards of Canada is finally clicking with me after years of telling people that i just didn't get it as much. while i haven't really gone around to clicking with a full album just yet, i've been enjoying select tracks from Music has the Right like Roygbiv, Olson and Rue the Whirl (hence why i'm picking this album). Nothing is Real from Tomorrow's Harvest has also been slowly growing a special place in my heart. not really achieved the legendary status level yet like it has for most people but me it is still damn good music – perfect for bike rides at sundown!

SOPHIE - PRODUCT (10 year anniversary edition)

i'm so happy they finally brought PRODUCT to streaming in an actual album format instead of just a playlist with a bunch of singles (as it has been for years). after the posthumous album from last year, which honestly felt poorly thought out, this here felt like we finally got the actual good and proper treatment she and her work needed. the bonus tracks UNISIL, OOH and GET HIGHER don't even feel tacked on, they feel like they were part of the original album this whole time – GET HIGHER in particular sends me in such an overjoyed state it legit feels like discovering SOPHIE for the first time in the mid 2010s again. long live!

Vegyn - Only Diamonds Cut Diamonds

of course i did my seasonal listen to Only Diamonds Cut Diamonds and you know what it's the same as always; still an underappreciated masterpiece. i'm only now realizing how much of its sonics bleed into my own shit i work on...

and of course with all listens i get too distracted with how amazing and beautiful the whole of the album is and get jumpscared by a JPEGMAFIA verse where he namedrops steven universe
