Weekly Music Thread (June 8-14th, 2025)

Post by hprara »

What have you been listening to this week?

You probably know the drill by now.
Talk about whatever music has marked your radar that you feel like talking about this week.

This past week I was briefly introduced the the world of Jesus Belluci with:

Jesus Belluci - MICHAEL JACKSON HAS DIED

This one is certainly something. Better experienced than described. Michael Jackson New Orleans Bounce Remix. Toilet Flush Sound Effect.
The B-side is also pretty cool. Thanks to duct for putting this in front of my eyes. I will definitely be delving deeper.

Other than that, I also revisited Pearl Jam's "Ten". I always forgot how good that album is.

Most people have probably heard Computer Love from The New Zapp IV U, but pretty much every other track on this album is on the same level.

If there was one and only one place and time I could go to and produce music in, it'd be the New Jack Swing of the mid-80s. But in lieu of a time machine, the talent, sensuality, and I have no money, and I have dry lips, + I don't even got it on me, and

oooh great album. 'I Only Have Eyes For You' is probably my standout off there.

COIN - Uncanny Valley

To be honest, most of this album is pretty unremarkable. Think The 1975 or Foster the People or Twenty One Pilots and you're pretty much in the ballpark about what most of this album sounds like. Songs like "Cutie", "Chapstick", and "Brad Pitt" are fun little jams, but the rest is hit or miss.

Then out of fucking nowhere there's the song "Watering a Dead Flower" which is fucking amazing for absolutely no reason. Like holy shit.

this week I've primarily been listening to Pet Sounds on repeat and crying a lot (RIP Brian Wilson). I've also been listening to Just Got Back From The Discomfort a lot, both records I had not heard before. A third record I found that I've been enjoying a lot is The Roaring Mechanism by the band P.E.E. - people recently have been talking a lot about their debut album (rightly so, it's excellent) but I think I much prefer the follow up record. Midwest Emo/Slacker Rock energy married with romantic-era chord sensibilities, which is everything I'm about lol. Highly recommend if that interests you.

I Only Have Eyes for You is the track that comes to mind when I think about Zapp, excellent song. although I'll always jump to the Macintosh Plus flip (or the christtt flip also tbh) first lol

I've been listening to Hole in Ocean.

Yes, this is the album that Fantasy is from.

Yes, Fantasy is the track with the freaky music video.

Btw that music video has been super hard to find since being removed from both Dailymotion and Youtube, if you've never seen it, prepare yourself, then see it, of course.

DyE is so interesting, id love to interview Juan de Guillebon someday.

Most people only know that one track due to the meme surrounding the video (ill admit that it had my highest playtime of any track in 2024), but id recommend you listen to the whole thing, if not, please listen to the following three tracks from DyE.

Hole in Ocean

Fantasy

For the longest time, I was only able to find an upload that wasn't even set to the original song. Someone put some Crystal Castles track over it lol
